Please bear with me. This issue doesn't relate to a GS but a Honda CBR125 which my student has recently obtained. I have referred to the CBR forum but am unable to access the search there due to a complicated registration process.

On the weekend we were on a ride and she complained of the bike 'locking up" at slow speed. It happened once and I frankly shrugged it off as she has been having a huge amount of trouble with stalling as she still has difficulty with the friction zone and throttle. It was a big part of the reason she ditched the GS400.

Toward the end of the ride, I did notice that the throttle was not correctly adjusted having too much play in it which was likely causing some of her problems. I couldn't sort it Sunday but got to it last evening. To test the throttle response I took it for a ride around the block. As I'm coming around a corner in 2nd i go to roll on some throttle and the bike just stalled and nearly spilled me off. Absolutely no warning just bang...dead and locked in gear. I had a little trouble finding neutral but did manage to sort it out and it seemed fine after that.

I have never experienced anything like that and wonder what may have happened? Anyone have any thoughts or any specific info on this issue as it relates to the 125?

Absolutely no warning just bang...dead and locked in gear. I had a little trouble finding neutral but did manage to sort it out and it seemed fine after that.

By that I'm assuming you mean it locked up the transmission and rear tire. I don't know specifically about the CBR125, but that's usually a sign that the shift drum detent is having a problem and allowing the drum to rotate out of position enough to select 2 gears at once. The detent is usually operated by a spring located behind or round the clutch on most conventionally built motors. Maybe someone else knows more specifics about this particular bike, but that's where I'd start looking. You might be able to feel if it's working or not by gently hand selecting a gear while it's on a stand.

Have you checked the front sprocket? I'm not sure if the CBR has the same set up as the CG125 but if the 2 retaining bolts unwind then the sprocket can jam on the casing. A dab of Loctite solves the problem.
