I have an 81 UK GS1000G (28,000 miles). I have ahad a few issues with a slipping clutch. In the past I ran heavy duty springs but when I changed the clutch last year I reverted to the original springs that came with the bike. Nice ligth clutch but it started to slip. so I went for a new set of Genuine spares springs. still slipping so to day I replaced three of the springs (there are six in the basket) after doing this I went for a test ride and could only get gears 1 and 2. Afeter s few hunderd meters I managed to change up but then only had three and four. I manged to get to my local bike shop where I pulled the clutch cover (thinking something must be wriong in there cos that is where I had been earlier). All looked good so back on and off I go. Much to my bemusement I had all five gears back
. I went for a quick spin to make sure it was all normal and no problems. I then had the generator cover off to fit a new gasket and stop a leak. all back on. Test drive time again and bugger me I'm back to firt and second gear only. the lever feels live it is dead. That spring back to position form an up or down shift is just not there. any idea's? It's way beyond my knolwedge!
From my experience when a selector shaft breaks it is not an intermittant fault, in fact there are very few intermittent gearbox faults. It cannot be a coincidence so it has to be linked to the clutch. That is as far as my logic takes me cos I don'5t know what I have done to the clutch to cause this problem.
