    Top End oiler kit ??

I just got my kit from Greg! VERY nice. After searching, I have found that some say a high volume pump is now needed. I DO NOT have a cooler on this bike (83 GS1100E).

Can I go ahead and install the kit or do I need to wait till I get a new pump?

    pump gears...not a pump.
    get a set from 77-79 gs750 or a 80-82 gs750.
    or by from a retailer.

Why would you need the top oiling kit for a stock bike?

(assuming it's stock since you have no oil cooler)

Only time you need them is when your bike starts to see some kind of performance use (racing for example). Unless you work your bike at seriously high rpm's and have some high-lift cams fitted, all you've done is sink a lot of money on something that doesn't really improve the performance or lifespan of your bike in any noticeable way. A stock GS already has sufficient lubrication, else they wouldn't run the long miles that they do.

      Just as an "FYI"...

And as blower mentioned, you need the gears, not the actual pump.

large lift cams=larger valve spring seat pressure=rapid wear=needs top end oiler.
top end oiler added to stock bike=profiler...lol
        just kidding

A top end oiler on a stock GS is just good INSURANCE!!! I put one on every engine I build or the cams & rockers get NO warranty! Ray.
