1977 750 kickstart wont turn engine

I just picked up a 750 engine that the kickstart will not turn the engine . Is there a shear pin inside that could have snaped ...any ideas thanks

let go of the clutch lever.

I don't have the cable hooked up yet is that the reason ?

if the clutch slips or you pull in the lever and disengage it..
that will let the kicker kick through without turning the engine.
so what is your story?

So maybe i have a clutch problem . Thanks for the help
