Failure mode of final drive??
Just left my '82 GS650GL at a friends' house. Stopped for a visit....and when I went to leave...no power to back wheel. Only grinding cog noise from back there. Left it there and caught a ride home. Now I'm sitting here fretting about it. Any ideas what might have happened?Tags: None -
The splines in the rear wheel are probably stripped out. Some yrs had soft gold-colored splines. Not a hard job but they are about $100 new from a vendor. You can find them on ebay at times just make sure they are the black or silver-colored ones and not worn out. A lot times you can buy a wheel with the splines in it as cheap as buying just the splines.1983 GS 1100 Guided Laser

1986 Suzuki Cavalcade GV 1400 LX (SOLD)
I find working on my motorcycle mildly therapeutic when I'm not cursing. -

Some newbie posts a thread just like this roughly once every other month.
The reason is in the archives.
Edit: dang, 1948 posted while I was typing.

Thank you...and...next question.
Thank you all for your help. Next question: Who's a good supplier? Local shops were not helpful...didn't seem to want my business. Anyone familiar with Babbit's Sports Center? They list a good price on their site.Comment

just call the toll-free number and ask for Ashley Cooper. You can check the parts fiche here to get the part #. http://www.alpha-sports.com/suzuki_parts.htm
Look under rear wheel and I think it's #15. Ebay might be cheaper. I'm not sure but the rear splines may be the same for all shafties from 650 to 1100.1983 GS 1100 Guided Laser
