1985 Suzuki GS550L Valve Adjustment

I'm fairly new here and just got my GS550L up and running after replacing pilet jet and all o-rings in the carb and now ready to tackle the valve job. Just had a few question before digging in. Is it a hard job to do and how long does it take. What tools will I need and will I need to replace the head cover gasket? Anything else I need to know before getting started? Any help would be great. Again thank you all for your time and help.

Hey there. Best thing for you to do is go back to Basscliff's site and read the Valve Adjustment article - http://members.dslextreme.com/users/...adjustment.pdf

You may not need a new gasket but I'd get one anyway just to make sure what's new and what isn't. You should also probably get a new breather cover gasket while you are at it. Past that, I'm not sure since I only have the 8v engine

Your 550 has screw adjuster rocker arms. Tools needed are feeler gauges, a 9mm wrench for the lock nuts & the female square valve adjuster tool from Suzuki or a square drive wood screw & a piece of wood to make a handle for the screw. Ray.
