Does anyone know of any problems the 82' GS1100E has experienced with the tranny? Specifically, I could grab on at a good price but it has some issues with second gear.

not a known problem but it can happen to any bike.
bent fork or rounded dogs.
either way the cases have to be split.
bike needs to be dirt cheap even if you do the work yourself. -

Id be more concerned with the pressed / twisted crank issue. The 2nd gear thing could be as simple as the shifter arm pivot. The shaft may need a shot of grease. Mine did that.82 1100 EZ (red)
