What tools do I need to adjust 16 valves?

A mechanic was wrong telling me I needed shims to adjust my valves. Now trying to locate the tools I need to adjust them myself.

So far these items are all clear:
- 0.08-0.13 mm feeler gauges (or 0.004-0.005 in)
- new head gasket
- rtv sealant

What about these?
- Cylinder head cover screw o-rings - What size are those?
- locknut ring spanner - does 40-46mm work?
- tappet adjust wrench. Haynes manual says "a small open-ended spanner will suffice." Why this vs a tappet wrench. Is it 4mm square or something?

Before opening up the cylinder head and checking the cam chain, what would the symptom of a loose cam chain be? My engine rumbles really low and has been guzzling gas, so wondering if something like that could be a symptom. Or is it just the valves that need adjusting?

Is there anything else I need?

Valve cover gasket not a head gasket.
Motion pro makes a tool to adjust the tappet and keep it in place while tightening the lock nut but I just use a little pair of pliers.

DO NOT FORGET TO PROPERLY TIGHTEN THE TAPPET ADJUSTERS. One hard rev and the adjuster can be in the oil pan or worst...

^^ triple check that they are tight i just put the motor back in after fishing out the nut out of my crankcase.

i just bent the 4 inch screw to L shape so i can hold it didnt even bother with a dowel works the same
