gs1100e cases gasket ?
Very bottom basket that is between the engine cases and transmission is leaking and I'd like to replace it. I'm curious if can just turn the engine upside down and pull the tranny cover off to replace it. The engine is already out, and in assuming the crank will stay put since it has the cam chain around it . Would these be a good approach for replacement?Tags: None -
no gasket there.
use yamabond or suzuki tri bond.

Yes, flipping the motor over is the way to go whether you're replacing the oil pan or splitting the cases
If you're splitting the cases , be sure to remove any bolts on the top side before you flip the motor over1978 GS 1000 (since new)

Thanks a lot guys. Especially blowerbike, I was all set to buy a stator cover and clutch basket off of you a few weeks ago but had to back out at the very last min. Im very sorry and hopefully work will pick back up for me because it is putting a huge dent in my motorcycling habits!Comment

If you pulling the case's watch out for the 2 bolts in the oil filter area that most people miss and the one under the oil pressure sensor.
You need a very small amount of bond otherwise it squeezes out all over the place, inside and outside and can get jammed up in the oil ways. You want about a '*@%^$*@%^$*@%^$ paper' thickness or almost see through to get it right.Comment

yeah, engine was rebuilt about four years ago by a very reputable mechanic and it seems this past year all my gaskets for one reason or another have decided to leak. I have the bike tore down and engine out so i'm doing all of them. seems strange to me that there is no gasket between the cases. wouldnt that be prone to leak all the time?Comment
