I've got an 82 gs650gl, however the motor is in rough shape, missing parts here and there. I have been searching for some parts bikes to canibalize but with few 650's to be found, my question is how big of a motor could I shove into the 650's frame? I am looking at only Suzuki GS shaft drives for possible donors, found a good deal on an 1100 but have been told that would not likely fit. Should I be able to fit up a bigger motor, given a little modification/fabrication?Tags: None

would there be any feasible way to shanghai an 850/1100 motor into a 650 frame with some modification/fabrication? I'm kind of planning this as a long term project, including some custom work. I just don't have a 850/1100 motor handy to get a good look at/get measurments from. OR in the opinion of those wiser than myself, should I try to finish out the 650 correctly and try to find another, chain driven model to annihilate with my crazy project ideas.

Anything can be done but the question is why? The forks are more spindly on the 650, and the drive shaft and rear end would have to be converted during the engine swap which adds further complication. Plus, GS850's are cheap as dirt these days. Best to find yourself a new project bike.Ed

round here (middle of nowhere, ks) 650's are for some reason, elusive. Plenty of 850/1100's and a few 550's around. I may have lined up some carbs, but I find myself needing a fuel tank. Would I be able to fit a fuel tank from just about any GS onto my frame?
