    Gap in starter cover

Is this normal? I'm guessing no..... I can literally see into the starter.

Second question: Does it even matter?

Maybe your Frankenbike has wrong cover- there's supposed to be gasket on there to keep water/dirt away from starter.

Nope I don't think that is normal.
Unless your bike is strangely different from mine!

My starter cover is completely flush.

The only problem I see, is water getting down in there, since there is another hole that goes into the motor.(I don't know exactly where this other hole goes to, I never checked)

that is purely a drain hole to allow any water, or oil() to drain out under the engine

the hole under starter is drain and goes out between lower case and sprocket cover, i doubt you'll get enough water in there to cause problems but dust and dirt will certainly accumulate over time. look at the other side is it flush can you put a bolt thru other opening or not maybe you can just enlarge the hole to slide cover a bit to the front?

Looks normal to me. I wouldn't worry about it.
