gs1000e Clunking into Gear

Acquired a 1978 gs1000e. Beautiful bike. I've got a couple issues with it however.

1. When shifting (especially into first) it really clunks (for lack of a better work) into gear. It does the same thing into all the gears, but not as loud. Doesn't effect anything, it's just that the loud noise makes me thing that I need to adjust something. I adjusted the clutch on the handlebars and the noise remains the same.

I own a 1978 gs750 and it is a little rough dropping into gear, but not nearly as loud as the gs1000.

2. Probably not the right forum, but the turn signals don't work. The signals are wire properly, but nothing happens when the switch is hit. I'd like to avoid the expensive route of a new self canceling unit or new handlebar control switch, if possible, however that could be the problem I suspect.

Clunk is most likely due to clutch drag. Lots of possible reasons including warped plates, oil is too thick, or adjustment come to mind.

Your turn signals need a proper electrical diagnosis using a volt meter, but I can tell you that the first generation Turn Signal Control Units were very problematic.
