Engines: GS1100 vs GS1150Is there any difference between these engines besides the cc? I'm only asking because I need an engine for my '83 GS1100E. And I have a choice between these two engines. Which one should I get? One is an '82 GS1100E engine and the other is an '85 GS1150EFE engine.Tags: None

All things being equal, I'd get the 1150 since it's updated in key areas compared to the 1100. A little more power, a little taller gearing, a little sturdier, particularly compared to an '82, which most likely doesn't have a welded crank.Ed

 To measure is to know.

1150 motor will drop right in, better motor still than the 83 1100. But you need something out of the 1100 motor to make it work and for the life of me I can't remember what it is?? Shifter shaft maybe??

Bolt the 1150 engine in. You can use it as is & don't need ANY engine parts from the 1100 to make it work. You DO need the 1100 crank trigger & ignition plate. It bolts right up to the 1150 motor & works just like the 1100. You get a better cylinder head, with 1mm bigger intake valves & a rubber valve cover gasket. Ray.

Maybe that's what it was. I remember asking Terry about the same swap a while ago and he said you needed something. I could have sworn it was something shifter side but you'd know better than I. I'm thinking that the motor mounts under the cases need to be offset slightly (?) but can't remember for sure

I have the stator and signal generator from the '83 GS1100E engine.

What about the exhaust ports? How do they compare? I have a V & H Supersport exhaust that fit the '82-'83 GS1100E engine perfectly.

I have been told that the '82 GS1100E engine is a runner with less than 30k miles. And he lives only 5 mins away from me. He wants $400 for it.

The '85 GS1150EFE engine has 12k miles, claims it's a runner, black paint with SS hardware, and is complete with carbs. He lives in eastern WA so it would take a few hours to drive there. He wants $900 for this one.

 Hard decision haha!

I put a gsx efe engine in my gsx1100 two weeks ago
I found i had to space the upper rear mount about 2mm to the right, I just used a couple of washers
And i had to cut about 20mm off the sprocket cover to clear the frame
Which one do I like best?

GSXEFE Peakier more grunt more fun
Spend the exra money do the exra little bit of tinkering go the efe
I didnt change thepickups and ignition plate over
Instead i used the efe sparkmaker thingy (between the pickups and the coils)
someone will but in and give the correct name for the component

While on the subject does anyone know how to wire up a gsxefe tacho
to a gsx to make it work?
There are 3 wires coming out the back of the tach brown orange white
orange is the power white is the earth brown is the signal
I have my brown wire coming from the earth side of the Right coil
The tacho needle moves but really slowly and hangs.Totally useless What am i doing wrong?
