Barnett fiber clutch plates

OK, installed a set of Barnett discs and the clutch is VERY heavy/stiff. (82 GS1100EZ) I have been told that the Barnett discs actually make the stack too thick. Somebody suggested removing one steel and one fiber disc? Reinstallation of the old discs isn't possible...got thrown in the trash.

Does this sound about right?

Did you install there springs also?

I have never used the Barnett kit with-out the springs installed as well. The barnett springs DO make the clutch pull very hard. When my wife bitched about the hard pull on her clutch, I swapped out half of the barnett springs for the stockers. End of bitching and all parties were happy again. Slayer61

Removed the barnett springs, reinstalled new factory springs. No joy...No matter how much I adjust things, the bike pulls even with clutch pulled in; neutral is nearly impossible to find when bike is running. I had no such problem before the swap. Should have dropped in a barnett spring or 2 to stop the mild slipping @ higher RPMs.

Stock Suzuki plates with Barnett springs best setup. Alot of aftermarket kits have thinner plates so they add one which leads to the problem you described

The thin plates tear up the clutch basket too.

I tried one of the APE 'extra plate' setups, mostly the same as the Barnett. Hard to find neutral, shifting difficult etc.
Sold them and bought a set of stock plates, new steels and I run 3 barnett and 3 EBC springs and it works great No slip and easy shifting, even neutral

It may be with lighter springs and Barnett plates youll have slipping anyway. I used the stock springs and Barnett plates and spun the fiber right off em. And yes the thin plates did chew up my basket.

I just put a EBS clutch kit in my RD400. It works well so far. I was considering the same thing for a 1000G. OEM friction plates were pretty expensive last time I bought some.

Has anybody used EBS friction plates?

For the GS 1100s & 1150s, the best plates out there are from Fast By Gast in New York. That or stock. PERIOD!!! Ray.

I looked up the Fast by Gas plates...good price! Are their plates thinner than stock, or of similar thickness??

They are the same thickness as stock. These are the plates that almost every GS drag racer uses. Ray.

What do folks recommend for roughing up the steels? A medium grit sandpaper? I've no clue....

A light sandblasting or other meadia blast works great
