Try using cellulose instead of fibreglas.

I have good result with FMF four stroke packing.
Cheap and better than insulation stuff.

I've used steel wool in the past. I haven't tried it yet, but you can buy fiberglass mat used in boat and auto body repair. It's basically fiberglass threads woven together to form a sheet. I noticed that's basically what is used on my VH pipe before the thick padding.

**Stainless Steel** Steel wool, otherwise it will turn into so much rust.

+1 on stainless wool. Don't want rust dust in your can!

I use stove pipe seal. It's basically fireproof rope and you buy in the hardware store by the foot. Maybe not the best sound absorption but it's durable and knocks the sound down enough to take the edge off.

You can buy actual muffler packing material from most any bike store that sells dirt bikes.
Its about 6 bux for a sheet.
