How to tell whether clutch is too hard or soft?

Hey guys i had a question about the clutch... if im sitting at a light and i have it in first gear, the bike lurches foward as soon as i let off 1mm on the clutch lever.. its like the clutch is already disenaged even when the clutch lever is squeezed. i can feel the clutch in general is just not right... i have the lock nut and adjustment down near the sprocket, should i turn clockwise or counter-clockwise for my situation to better, or maybe i should just get new plates? i bought NOS plates a year ago so i dont think thats it..

Why not perform the entire clutch adjustment procedure as described in the Suzuki service manual?
The lower adjustment needs proper lubrication and the correct amount of free play, then the upper adjustment does too.
    Read the book.
