    Gs550, hole under starter?

    Is this hole supposed to be here? Not where the starter gear goes but the hole that would be under the starter.

        yes, the hole is supposed to be there. It is a little known fact that GS models are the only bikes ever made with a built in M&M's dispenser. You're supposed to fill that cavity with them before installing the starter. When you start the bike, the chain throws M&M's out the back which you can catch with your teeth.

          Ha! I didn't know you're a member here as well 240.

          Yeah, that's just a drain hole so nothing can pool by the starter motor. I do like the M&M dispenser idea though......

            About every other month or so, someone posts a question about the "mystery hole". If you do a search for "mystery hole" you'll find it's a drain hole that is supposed to be there.
