What other secondary drive gears will fit 82 GS1100L?

    Hi,

I've just discovered that the bevel gear on the drive side has stripped some teeth so I'm wondering what other models/years share the secondary drive? and just as important what models/years should i avoid!

I cant remove the drive assembly even though i can move it out a few inches - any suggestions?

    Thanks

To clarify things.... you mean the bevel drive gears at transmission end? and not at the wheel? Those gears are made as matched set- they are both likely to be damaged.

GS1000 and 1100 shaft drives share the same secondary gears. People have reported success with only changing the driven gear since that's the one that typically fails.

Yes the gears at the transmission end.

I'm not sure exactly what has happened to my engine as both gears have failed. the driven gear broke at the universal plate joint but the nut hadn't come loose. The drive gear has broken some teeth but i cant tell anything else about it because its still stuck in the engine. I can pull the unit out a few inches until it feels like it hits a solid stop - something is stopping the gear coming out but it feels too solid to be a piece of the broken gear causing the problem.

I've located a few GS850 drive gears on ebay but no matched sets yet. Will the 850 gears fit the 1100?

NO the 850 is different.. You just need to us some more muscle and it will come out, it's a very tight fit..
