    How to fit an Oil Cooler???

    Hi all. Ive got an oil cooler from a Transit van and i want to fit it to my GS850... now, where can i run the pipe connecting the cooler to and from???
    Can i fit it to where the Tacho Mechanism lives at the top ov the engine? Where woukd it go into down the bottom ov the engine? Is it the blanked off bit above the side crankcase???

    You need an adapter to feed oil from where the oil pressure switch goes & back....

    To be honest with the temperatures you get there I wouldn't bother... more cost/hassle than it's worth plus multiple extra leak points & a slower warm-up in winter (as you won't have a thermostat on the cooler).

    If you're convinced you want to do it Nessism has a thread on here about how to make your own adapter. I believe he's also made a couple of them for people without the skillset/tools to do so themselves.

      I realise that its a little OTT. But im building a Survival/ Rat bike and thought it added a certain..... Something, to the look ov it.
      I'll check out the Thread you mentioned.

                  Okay, I located one... it's on my GS1000EC and it's staying there.

                      Yes I did...

                      There was a 2 Meter transceiver and a 2m/70 cm dual band transceiver, a set of headlights for the W-6, a mapp gas torch, two broken carb bodies and a complete rack of carbs for an '80 850.

                        Boasting that you tidied away all those empty beer bottles again.....?

                        Like Dan said, you won't need a cooler over here (getting chilly already - heating clicked in this morning) so have you considered popping a non-functional one on just for looks? You can tuck the hoses up under the tank and nobody will know.

                        Ed's tutorial will be the cheapest way to sort one if you want one for more than just show..

                            Oh i couldnt bring myself to just have it on "for show"..
                            I know what you mean about it not being hot enough, alrhough it would be nice to be able to turn an oil cooler on when it gets to Summer each year...

                              If you try to draw oil from the filter housing with a pump, you'll only succeed in dropping the pressure and starving the motor of oil. It's not too difficult to modify the oil pressure switch housing to make a flow and return adaptor for a cooler. Give John the Breaker a call, he might have one. Don't have his number off hand, I'm sure it's on the web somewhere.
