    16v vs. 8v

I just have a question to satisfy my natural curiousity.
I know from reading (plenty of) previous posts that a 16v head will not work on a 8v engine. I was just wondering, since I don't have access to both, what are the differences? I would guess cylinder stud spacing is different since they won't interchange, but that's a guess and I know with the experience present on this board you guys can answer this!
    Thanks for indulging my curiousity!
(And no,I don't have some hair-brained plan to try to make it work,so put up the torches and pitchforks!)

Besides the bolt spacing, it's also a matter of oil passages and the height from the head/block mating surface and the cams, which would dictate the timing chain length.

I am sure there are also other differences, these are just a couple that I have heard about. I don't have any 16-vlave engines and have only worked on one, so not a lot of experience with them.
