I used the presidential gold coins, but it seems they're the same size as the Suzies.

The whole point of using the coins is to use anything* that will keep the buckets from chipping the lobes on the cams.
*anything that is softer than the cam lobes and will not scratch them, that is.

Steve, you just opened my eyes to something I saw on the cam lobes and couldn't figure out what had happened...I was wondering if it was just shoddy machining but that is a more likely explanationOriginally posted by Steve View PostThe whole point of using the coins is to use anything* that will keep the buckets from chipping the lobes on the cams.

.
So, not to hijack the thread, but what would be the best course of action should one notice that a PO had chipped the cam lobes? (feel free to turn this into a new thread)'83 GS650G
'83 GS550es (didn't like the colours in the 80's, but they've grown on me)

Someone who has had to fix this problem will have to answer that one.Originally posted by BigD_83 View Post... what would be the best course of action should one notice that a PO had chipped the cam lobes?
Fortunately, I have not had any problems with them.

Hi,
Too late.Originally posted by BigD_83 View PostSo, not to hijack the thread,...
About all you can do is replace the cams. Or you might try grinding the chips smooth, as long as they're not on the point of the lobes....but what would be the best course of action should one notice that a PO had chipped the cam lobes? (feel free to turn this into a new thread)
Thank you for your indulgence,
BassCliff
