    Engine Transplant

Does anyone know what is involved with mounting a '84 GS1150 engine into a '83 GS1100E frame?

The 1150 motor will bolt right in, it is a direct fit. You can even use the 1100 exhaust if you want. But you will find that the 1100 uses a cable driven Tachometer and the 1150 uses a electronic tach. your tachometer will no longer work with this motor and your stock guages

With a Dyna 2000/4000 you can wire in an electronic tach

Or you can use the crank trigger & mechanical advancer from your 1100 on the 1150 engine. You will need to use the 1100 ignition cover or drill a hole in your 1150 ignition cover as the 1100 mechanical advancer sticks out further than the fixed advancer from the 1150. Ray.

You'll find the bike vibrates more than the 1100 with stock front engine mounting plates.

I had a machine shop graft on the rubber dampers from the 1150 onto the front engine mounting plates. Seemed to quell the buzz a bit.
            GS\'s since 1982: 55OMZ, 550ES, 750ET, (2) 1100ET\'s, 1100S, 1150ES. Current ride is an 83 Katana. Wifes bike is an 84 GS 1150ES
