    Motor Swap

    Guys/Gals

I got a chance to buy a 1981 GS1000GL. Was wondering if the motor will fit into my 1980 GS1000G. I know the rear frame stuff is different but the motor looks the same.

    Cheers

If they're both shaft drive the engines should swap right over I'd think.

I'm gonna guess it'll drop right in. At worst you might have to fabricate some minor motor mount bracketry. Otherwise you should be golden.

Thanks guys, its just a nice to know as I want to rebuild the top end on my 1000G and the motor in the 1000L was already rebuilt, so if I don't dig the L I can pop it in my G.

        Cheers

Pop it in the G, Ls are only good for spare parts.
The engines are identical in every way, I believe.

Life is too short to ride an L.
