    gs1150 cam chain

    i just bought a 1984 gs1150eff that sat for 10 + years , i have it running but, is it ever a loud engine , im wondering is it the cam chain or loose valves ,stuck cam chain automatic adjuster ? if the cam chain is shot can i change it without breaking engine open ?any suggestions would be appreciated thanks

    Check the valve adjustment, check the function of the cam chain tensioner, measure the cam chain for wear. Knowledge is better than guessing.

    And some people using a link'ed type cam chain that can be changed without splitting the cases, but others (like Suzuki) don't.

      Clutch could be loose; where is the sound coming from? If you are concerned about the cam chain pull the valve cover and look for any obvious damage including a loose chain.
