    Summary......trans in neutral. still binding with no installed head- but no binding if clutch springs are removed- I can't see what is hanging up in clutch assembly that would be effected by clutch pressure.The primary gear is tight on trans input shaft- no back and forth play?

      i would rip out the whole clutch assembly and investigate deeper from there
      1978 GS1085.

      Just remember, an opinion without 3.14 is just an onion!
