Whirring noise in gear?

I hear a strange noise from the front when riding. It sounds like rubbing or friction from the front wheel or header. Since it happens while in motion, I cannot isolate it.

What makes it stranger is that it disappears when I pull in the clutch. What could make that noise up front? The clutch and drive train are below me and to the rear.

It's not a grinding noise, just a slight rubbing. But for the clutch aspect, I would suspect a brake pad upfront.

maybe put the bike on the center stand and running, in gear. You might hear up the noise at idle speeds.

Note this is not conclusive because there is no resistance in the drive train.

How about the speedo drive/cable?

When ever I heard a new noise like that from up front I quickly check my speedo gear down at the wheel. I've lost at least 3 of those. Not sure why it would go away with the clutch engaged, weird.

Checked things out upfront. No clues on the odd rubbing noise, but I did have an exhaust bolt that was loose almost to the point of falling out.
