Z-1 enterprises, self complete gasket kits,i know of none that come with pistons and rings, they are seperate, also at Z-1 u can buy individual, but head and base gaskets pretty much only come in complete kits unless u get them at a Zuki dealer, which are as expensive as buyin a complete kit

There's lots of threads about gasket kits and lots of them talk of only using OEM for the base and head gaskets as well as the o-rings.

First, a gasket set contains just that, gaskets. And o-rings and valve stem seals if you buy the entire engine set.
Second, I have no personal experience with aftermarket head gasket and base gaskets for GS models, but I have read multiple posts where the aftermarket ones are a virtual guarantee for leaks.
In my own personal experience, I installed 2 aftermarket valve cover gaskets on my GS. One let go on a GS rally and I had to use form-a-gasket to get home. The second let go as I was riding down the street and bathed me with oil. I replaced it with an OEM gasket and had no further problems.
I did purchase a Cometic lower gasket set for my GS and had no problems with the stator gasket or clutch cover gasket, which is all I used out of the set. They seemed to be of good quality.
I did use Vesrah gaskets on my KZ750E and had no problems, and am currently using an Athena set on my GPz (with a special Cometic head gasket) on my GPz with no issues, so I have never understood why the GS models should be different, but all I have is the information I gleaned from other threads, plus my experience with valve cover gaskets.
AFA your particular model, IDK, I had the 83 listed in my sig.
I purchased the Vesrah and Athena gasket sets from Z1Enterprises. The Cometic set came from Cometic.

I used an Athena set on my GS650 and had some minor "seepage" until I retorqued the cover screws several times. I used stainless allen screws when I built the engine, I don't think I could have gotten enough torque with the factory phillips heads.

            ...whats your time worth?

            OEM only.

Also, the set does not come with valve seals.

Aftermarket gaskets suck. In particular Athena brand (green gaskets). The base gasket can't take the clamp load from the head and extruded out of place when I rebuilt my GS1000. Took the engine apart a second time and replaced the gaskets with OEM.

Any Chance you ordered those OEM gaskets from somewhere? If so, Where?!?!?
My suzuki dealer can only get me Athena and I'm having a heck of a time trying to locate a set online.

Jay, no offense but if your suzuki dealer cant get you suzuki parts then, well, they suck!

Step one: go to Bike Cliff's site and down load the parts catalog
Step two: go through catalog for your model and write down the part numbers you want to aquire. If you want a complete engine gasket set you will find that part number in the back ("optional" or something like that)
Step three: search for parts online using the part numbers.

I have been getting stuff from Powersports Plus. They use the suzuki part numbers and have really good prices

                  Good Luck
