how much oil should the camshaft be sitting in?

I just measured my valve clearances for the first time on my GS650G. There was a lot more oil surrounding the camshaft than I expected - three of the valve's shims were completely submerged in oil. Is this normal, or do I maybe have a leak somewhere? I replaced the valve cover gasket while I was in there, if that helps.

It was exhaust #1, intake #2 and exhaust #4. I was up on the center stand. Normal is good.

There are not any drain holes, when the engine quits spinning the oil just sits there until you spill it on top of your engine and on your shirt sleeve. Its all good.

you should be more worried if there was no oil up there at all !!!!!!
