GS750 engine serial #s

The search feature is broken so if there is a topic on this already, can someone post it?

I have a 1980 GS750L with motor # GS75X-103388. This bike came with a spare motor GS75X-163550. I'm trying to determine the year of the second motor.

Is there a serial number range chart somewhere showing S/Ns by year?

why worry?
how many valve cover bolts does it have?
if 20 then its an 80-81.
if 24 its an 82.
i would assume the larger the number the newer the engine.
