    cracked head

    85 750 Kat

I bought it last fall after a short test drive and visual inspection. It had some cracked plastics and was in dire need of a new chain. One winter later and I was starting to work on it. I had noticed a small oil leak near the #4 cyl and thought it was the valve gasket. Wrong!

Where the head is recessed for the sparkplug, almost directly in front there is a vertical crack in the head.

Any ideas what could cause this? The bike runs well and has no apparent damage of the type that would crack the metal. ie. bad crash.

I know pics would be worth a thousand words but I have no photo account at this point and time. Imageshack annoyed me too much.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

Someone sprayed the bike with cold water after a long afternoon ride.

Well that makes sense. I guess I have to start looking for another head.
