    clutch not disengaging

Hello, I'm new to this site, though have referred to it from time. I have a 78 GS550 that I've been working on for some time now. After dealing with a new wiring harness, ignition, coils, oil filter, oil, plugs, control switches etc, I finally got her running, though not well. I'm planning on rebuilding the carbs and installing larger jets as I have individual air filters on, but my immediate problem is the clutch won't disengage, no matter how I adjust the cable. The bike did sit for 2 years so I thought that maybe the clutch plates are just gummed up and need to be removed and cleaned. I was curious if anyone else has had this problem. Thank you

Lots of people. You're probably right. Every thing is stuck together. Sounds like you've turned a wrench or two so pulling the clutch pak should be pretty easy. Might consider some new cover screws and a gasket. You can pull the cover on the side stand without losing any oil but you might want to change it anyway.
