I would say plates are worn, it will start slipping soon if not now under hard load.My bikes 79 GS1000 1085 checked and approved by stator the GSR mascot :eagerness: and 77 GS750 with 850 top end, GS850g, and my eldest sons 78 GS550, youngest sons GS125. Project bike 79 GS1000NComment

GS clutch plates are quite durable and typically last the life of the bike, unless it's been abused. The clutch springs on the other hand loose tension with age. Most of the time a slipping clutch can be fixed by installing new OEM springs. Aftermarket springs will work as well but they increase hand effort due to an increased spring rate.
Best thing to do is pull the clutch apart and measure the plates, and order new springs. You may need new friction plates too, but most likely not. I have three different GS1000 clutch friction disc sets sitting in the garage, taken from parted out bikes, and all are still well within spec. Not much of a selling market for parts like these because the originals rarely wear out.Ed
