    Where can I find a piston ring set for a 79 GS850

    Hi everybody,

I am new to the site and new to motorcycles in general (but not engines).

I recently acquired a 79 GS850 that was not running so well.

I had a friend of mine that is a mechanic check it out and wsa told that i need new piston rings.

I am now trying to source some replacement rings for this bike and having a hard time doing so.

Does anyone know the part # for the ring set?

Does anyone have a set they want to sell?

Any suggestions as far as where to look for the parts?

Please, any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Jeff

Why do you think it needs rings ?? How many miles ? Last time it was run ? Valve adjustment ?

you will need to ascertain whether you require standard size rings or oversize, if the bike has been rebored previously. you will also require a top end gasket set. have you tried your nearest Suzuki dealer for parts? or look online to find your nearest dealer, depending where you are in the world there are some good suppliers, and some not so good.

I wouldn't be so hasty to go change the rings. What is the problem? What maintenance have you performed on the bike? Has the bike been in long term storage recently? Lots of details to button up before assuming the bike needs rings.

Yeah, 850s never need rings unless they run a couple hundred thousand miles.

          Adjust the valves.
