650G RPM / Speed question...
For anyone with a 650G with more or less standard tire sizes, what is the speed in fifth gear at say 4000 or maybe 5000 RPM?
Thank!Last edited by tkent02; 12-02-2013, 06:53 PM.Tags: None -
Huh, I thought it was higher. Thanks.Comment

That would be about 65 mph at 5000 rpm.
My son's 650L is put away right now, or I would take it out for a spin, but that's about the speed I remember.
Yes, you asked about the G, but in the 850/1000/1100 gear comparison, there was virtually no difference between the G with a 17" wheel and a GL with a 16" wheel (5021 vs 5016 rpm @ 70 mph), and I know the 650 spins a bit higher than the 850.

It's the more after that I'm interested in. Planning sprocket ratios for the 550/675, it now goes 76mph at 5,000 in 6th. If I drop that to what the 650 did, about 66 - 68 in 6th gear at 5,000, it should top out at about 120 something and be very quick in the lower gears. Thank for your help.Comment

I changed the ratios on my 650E so that at 60 mph it is spinning at 4,200 rpm in 5th gear, which is fine, because that's right where the power surge begins. It will no longer pull redline in 5th, but tops out about 500 rpm below redline (9500 rpm), going 117 mph as measured by GPS.It's the more after that I'm interested in. I found the engine rpm would vary by a few hundred rpm by changing tire size. It's the only practical way to re gear it.1981 GS650G , all the bike you need
