1980 Gs850 mysterious hole... please help
I have a perfect circular hole underneath the stator cover and beside where the stator wires come out of the engine. In a little crevice it looks like a plug hole for a rubber plug but i dont know please helpTags: None

By the way, it's not a "mysterious" hole, it's the MYSTERY hole.
Now you know why.

Most likely the o-ring on your starter motor (seals the starter shaft where it goes into the stator cavity) is shot, allowing the oil in that cavity to leak past it... it will drip on your foot, get on your rear tire, & make a mess once the oil gets hot.Originally posted by oxcadillacxo View PostThanks so much.. lol thats a crazy place for a drain hole i just seen it leaking oil and was so close to riding and then i found the mystery hole asked a couple people and they didnt know either but i knew you guys would thanks again
Easy fix, remove starter cover & unbolt the starter (2 bolts at the rear), replace o-ring (use OEM one), then reassemble. You might have to turn the shaft a bit to get it to line up with the gear on the inside but it's no biggie.
It's a tight fit, but you can do it without removing the carbs.'85 GS550L - SOLD

Yeah, the bottom of a cavity that needs to remain somewhat dry is a crazy place to put a drain, isn't it?Originally posted by oxcadillacxo View PostThanks so much.. lol thats a crazy place for a drain hole
