    GS1000E clutch basket question

    Outer basket (alloy) has lots of heavy and light hair line cracks around rivets is this ok ?

                  My old basket had no "casting" cracks around the rivets but one crack as in photo.

                      Mine shows now such flaws either. I hate to say it, but if in doubt, grind off the rivet heads and take it apart.

                          The one that is cracked wide open is my old one ,
                          the other photos are of the replacement.
                          I'm weary about fitting due to (what I think) hair line cracks ,
                          I am looking at a 5000 k road trip when bikes done and I'm able

                            There are crack inspection kits available for aluminum. Zyglo?? Spotcheck??

                            Do you know anyone with a 10X eye loupe?

                              no I don't . and have sanded a hair line crack for 10 minutes with 1000 grit paper and it is still visable to the eye not able to photograph tho
