As tkent stated, the plungers are different lengths depending on the model. Perhaps you have the wrong (short) plunger installed into your tensioner.
Either find another good used one from a forum member or buy the new parts including the seals: http://www.partsoutlaw.com/oemparts/...e648/cam-chainComment

No, I have no idea if it is correct or not. Wondering on plunger length from another 850, so I can compare it to mine.Comment

Nope, nowhere in this thread did I ask a question. Do people just like posting to say they have 1000's of post?Comment

No, we'd all like to know what was wrong with your tensioner, if anything.

[QUOTE=kjsamm;2082561] The problem is that it is at its max rotation, but the chain falls way under max 20 pin length. So why maxed out? Still cant figure out why tensioner is maxed with everything else in spec??????
I have taken apart, cleaned and made sure tensioner functions properly. But still has no more room to take slack up from chain. Nothing is wrong with the tensioner, except that it may be the wrong one, or the head was shaved and they didn't accommodate with the chain and or tensioner. This was all previously mentioned, except for that my head my have been shaved. As it sits now chain has tension but tensioner has no more room to take up slack. Not being rude, but just read. I shouldn't have to repeat everything that IS already in this thread.Comment

The one question i need answered is the length of the tensioner plunger. That will verify for me if mine is right or not. But everybody keeps saying I haven't asked a question. When its here in black and white.Comment
