Just how did you arrive at this conclusion ? camcover off, drooping chain ? So tensioner plunger has run out of travel ? Did you "reset" it and reinstall correctly ?
Yes, I have reset tensioner. The only travel that is left in the plunger is from the spring on the plunger. The plunger is pushed out to its max. The knob with the larger spring on outside of tensioner has no more travel left, it is at the end of its rotation.

Sorry I still don't have an 850 tensioner to measure here with me. If you find out if it's the same part as a 750 I can measure one of those in a couple days.
I think it is the same part.

Thinking about going to gs graveyard and pulling one and finding length. Or I may just install manual tensioner. Know where i can find a good one?

Sounds like the wrong cam chain tensioner for that bike. The other possibility I see is that someone replaced the cam chain and installed the wrong length.
