GS vs. GSX

    GS vs. GSX

    I was recently told by a decent source, that may or may not have the correct info, that I have a gsx750.....

    I'm not sure of differences or even how to tell by the engine number.

    The engine # starts with GS75X, and I was told it is in fact a gsx engine. Is this information correct?

    Also, are there any performance/rarity/desirability advantages if this is a GSX?

    Your posted location says that when the bike was sold, it was sold as a GS. The rest of the world, though, knew the same bike as a GSX.

    As far as I know, the four-valve engines were the ones that were known as "GSX".

      So, I know the difference between the heads, but is there any differences anywhere else?

      Better cams? Gear ratios? Anything of that sort?

        Depending on the model, there might have been a different paint scheme.

          The US market bikes tend to have more smog controls compared to some other countries bikes. Carb jets are likely different, but not sure about internal engine changes.

            On the 750 models the most obvious difference between the GS and GSX is the shape of the tank. And of course the side panel badges!
            79 GS1000S
            79 GS1000S (another one)
            80 GSX750
            80 GS550
            80 CB650 cafe racer
            75 PC50 - the one with OHV and pedals...
            75 TS100 - being ridden (suicidally) by my father

                Here's my GSX750 behind my mate's CB500. Humpback tank and the X on the side.
                79 GS1000S
                79 GS1000S (another one)
                80 GSX750
                80 GS550
                80 CB650 cafe racer
                75 PC50 - the one with OHV and pedals...
                75 TS100 - being ridden (suicidally) by my father

                    Some Suzuki GS bikes were marketed as "GSX" in various non-U.S. countries. So maybe the person who told you that was from somewhere else. In the U.S., all of our GSes were called GSes.

                    Chances are you have the same 1981 GS750E that I and lots of other people here on this forum have. They're great bikes, but not at all rare.

                    Pics would prove it beyond a doubt.
