bad mechanical bang now won't start or turn over

Me and my fiance went on a ride as we came to a stop light the lower end started making a banging noise but the bike still was running pulled off to the side and shut it off than turned it back on and it was very loudly banging than it died than it wouldn't turn over at all like engine was stuck.the sound was loudest on the side with the starter and stator.I really hope this isn't the end of my 1982 suzuki gs1100ez. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Starter clutch bolts may have backed out and are jammed against the cases. Pull the stator cover and see if the clutch ( behind the rotor ) is flopping around.

Hopefully they didnt puncture the cases.

I would rather trust my bike to a "QUACK" that KNOWS how to fix it rather than a book worm that THINKS HE KNOWS how to fix it.
