Gs DOHC ID

Does anyone know if Suzuki gs models 1970's & 80's DOHC 4 cylinders have cam ID's. Looking at two different sets, the only thing I could find is one set had R2 stamped in both cams. The other set had R3 stamped in both cams. Please post any info that can help me ID these two sets. I'm plan on installing a 850 top end on my 750 and I would really like to know how to ID these before installing as I want to select the right cams or are the OEM cams from the 750/850 the same grind?

Can't help you much with your ID question, but I did look up part numbers and found that none of the 750 cams are shared by the 850.

Not saying they won't work, just that they are not the same part number.

If you look in the service manual, you will find timing specs for the cams, which might be the only difference between them.

The 750/850/1000 cams all interchange. Suzuki changed the valve timing slightly over the years but all in all, the differences are so minor as to not matter. I'd look for the set that's in the best condition and then just go with it. A micrometer is needed to measure the journal wear. There isn't a whole lot of oil pressure on the top end of these 2V engines so some cam wear is known to happen (but rarely causes issues).
