78 gs550 transmission access, splitting cases apart leaving top end intact

Hi ,does any body know is it possible to split cases apart on 79 gs550 without taking head and cylinders, ,reason being have rebuilt motor recently.but wanted to retro fit kickstarter,

I like the original look.and it might come in handy some time. previous owner had chucked kickstarter gears away, but now
have all bits to fit but will only bother fitting if I don't have to disturb top of motor again. dont know if I have to take cylinders off to access any bolts.if I do I think I can live with it without kickstarter.

cheers for quick reply will hopefully fit kickstarter when ive got some spare time .over Christmas .this forum has helped me so much with sorting my bike.its just great to ride it at moment.
