    How the heck do you get cases apart?

    I've pulled all the bolts I can see, and some I couldn't. I tapped in a utility blade. It opens a fraction then closes after I pull the blade out. Did I miss a bolt, or is it just this tough? Do I need to take the oil pick up out of the motor in order to split the cases? I ask because the head of one of the screws (WHY DID THEY USE SCREWS!) is stripped.

    Did yu take the one in the front center put that comes in from the bottom? How about removing the oil pan and removing the one next to the oil pick up tube??

      Dremel a slot in the bolt head and use a flat tip

          I don't know about your bike but a GS 1000 has a special tapped spot on the front of the case where you screw in a bolt and it spreads the upper and lower cases apart. Take a look and see if there is one on your 1100.

            thanks, you guys are awesome. This site is one of the best I've ever seen for knowledge-based resources. It was the two bolts under the starter. It came right apart after that. Bonus, it looks like the transmission is already undercut. I'm no pro but the dogs look very angled. I'll post some pictures in a different thread later tonight. Thanks again.

              Indeed. I have been working on replacing a motor in my Honda Accord and have posted to 3 different Honda sites for over a week with barely any help from any of them. There is so much knowledge and help on this site and the members are ACTIVE. Love it.

                SOME of the trans dogs are cut from the factory. It's the others that are the issue. Call me tomorrow before 1pm, Pacific time John.
