according to Alphasports Fiche they are different,
      50 27600-49220
      CHAIN ASSY, DRIVE (630x96LE)
      1
      50 27600-49240
      CHAIN ASSY, DRIVE (630x98LE)
      1 GS1100ESD
      1978 GS1085.

Just remember, an opinion without 3.14 is just an onion!

The only way that could be is if they were different gear ratios from each other & NONE I have had were different ratios. Maybe they are listing the ES as what the 1150 is supposed to be.

Alpha sports is wrong. Suzuki parts fiche shows both with the same part number: 12760-45040

Got it from the factory manual on BikeCliff's site. Section 17-5.

This should settle things. If, in fact, the E’s are meant to have two fewer links, and they use the same swingarm, then the chain adjuster would have to be longer to accommodate the axle being ? inch further from the end of the swingarm, AND the wear marks on the adjuster would have to be in a different position than on the ES’s so that if a 98 link chain was put on a stock E, as was done in mine, the chain would appear to need replacing. The two pictures below show that exactly. The first picture shows my stock ES and the second shows my stock E with a 98 link chain—which until now I thought needed to be replaced.

              E's use 96 links. ES's use 98.
