engine/cam question
Someone is offering a 1000G engine to me but there are no cams in it. I've read on here that cams are specific to each engine, is that true? or can I just put a good set of cams in this engine and be fine with it? as always appreicate the input.Tags: None -

You can use just about any cams from a 750 and larger 8V engine. Some models had slightly different valve timing but the difference is minor.Ed

It's also said that Suzuki used the GS1000 cams on the 850, though I've never been in a position to verify that. It might just be motorcycle journalistic BS. If you care to do some part number matching you might find the truth of it, or not.Dave

As stated above. The cam caps must remain with the engine they were machined with and the cap positions must be maintained. Another words A to A, B to B, C to C and D to D all from the original engine. The cam bore is align honed at the factory. Cams were not hand selected so virtually any cam set will install.http://img633.imageshack.us/img633/811/douMvs.jpg
