I have a 78 1000. There is a bike graveyard near here with a (77 or 78 I think) GS550 in it. Are the transmissions the same or similar? Could I tell by looking? I was thinking about buying it for parts.

Some guys have transplanted KZ550 (6-speed) transmissions into a KZ750 (5-speed) engine, but that's a smaller displacement jump than 550 to 1000.Ed
