Mystery Pin from Startor/starter case. HELP!

Ive recently taken my 1981GS550E apart and now putting it back together Ive found a small pin (see picture) in one of my parts containers.
hoping one of you GS geniuses can help me out with where it goes?

Ive looked through both my manuals and can't seem to find it. i havent split the crank or transmission i've only taken the outer cases off.

    Thanks for any info!

You didn't happen to have taken the gear shifting switch off? Does the gear indicator on the dash work?

Did you take the little plastic cover off next to the gearbox sprocket?

Looks like the pin to me. Sticks in the end of the shifting drum. Happen to find a small spring about 1/2 inch long anywhere???

Also lights the neutral light, you might want to refit that pin and spring if you find it.
