Please help identifying a gs1100 engine

I have an 82 GS1100 but the engine and carbs are black.

Are there any outward identifiers aka serial # or bolt patterns that i can look to to see if it is a 1982 or 1983?

the # on the engine is GS110X-147303

Or do i have to investigate the crank end to see if it has the bigger generator bolt or end or something???

spray it with carb cleaner...a factory black engine won't be affected.

if it begins with GS110 then its an old one. if the cam end caps are smooth that's another giveaway

nope...in the USA GSX110 runs from 80-83 on the 1100 16 valve engines.
also VC beauty covers can be changed.
20 bolt VC is 80/81
24 bolt VC is 82/83..83 is factory black.
