    Yes another clutch repair thread...

Hi so I have a 1979 GS1000 that I just finished modding and I took it for a ride yesterday for the first time and it has a rattle but also seems to have very short engagement on the lever.

    Nothing
    Nothing
    Nothing
    Grab
    End of range

I have read that clutch nut is horrible and comes loose and that there is complete rebuilt kits. Bike has 30,000 miles so I dont know if the baskets need to get done so I was thinking just clutch plates, springs, and nut. Can somebody point me in the right direction for the springs and nut? I was gonna get OEM plates but the sites I've checked out the packaged kits are for GS1100's or 1980's model bikes. Then there is talk of welding stuff etc. So I'm a little lost

    Plates: OEM
    Springs: ??
    APE nut: ??

    Thanks!

Sounds like you just need to adjust the clutch cable.

or the arm on top of the clutch case

Does the clutch rattle? Does the rattle go away when you squeeze the clutch lever?
      Does it slip?

If yes to the rattle, an inspection is required
If no to the slip, it's the basket, not the plates and springs
