    Tach removal gs1100

I've been waiting for a new sleeve for the tach, but with the 80 degree weather here it's hard to let my bike just sit! Can it run safely without the tachometer worm drive gear in the cam. I pulled it to replace it, but would just plug the hole and ride if I can.

Plug and ride it, the gear is not a necessary part for running.

Cool, thought so but wasn't sure. This has been a long wait since I got it two months ago I've worked on things here and there. So far I've changed both tires, front lights, seat lock, cam cover and breather gaskets, valve shims to get within specs, electrical grounds, engine oil and filter, air filter, and spark plugs. The idle raises from time to time and I think the new weather stripping and filter in the air box revealed vacuum leaks at the carbs. That's next!
Thank you all for the info on this site and for helping this carpenter play mechanic.

Yeah, should be fine just make sure you have a good seal or oil will get everywhere. (Ask me how I know.)
